Is this the official website of the cave?

No. grottefriouato.com is an independent guide. Public access to the cave is managed on site; we offer guided visits, guided caving and trips in Tazekka, on request.

Is the cave open?

Yes. It reopened at the end of July 2026, after several years of safety works. Official opening hours are still to be confirmed.

How much is the entrance?

At the end of July 2026, the public access ticket observed on site cost 5 MAD per person. An increase to 50 MAD had been proposed but not yet approved. Our services (guide, caving, groups, circuit) are on request.

Do I need to book?

Not for public access, which is paid on site. For a guided visit, caving or a group, send us a request and we will get back to you quickly.

Do I need to be fit?

Going down is easy; climbing back up some 520 steps requires good fitness. Take your time, there are landings. Guided caving is not recommended for claustrophobic people.

Can I bring children?

Yes, for public access, under constant adult supervision and with good shoes. For caving a minimum age applies: ask us.

How cold is it?

Between 12 and 14 °C all year round, with high humidity. Bring a warm layer, even in summer.

Can I go down to the bottom?

The bottom, at −271 m, can only be reached on a caving expedition, with rope, equipment and a qualified leader.

How do I get there from Taza?

Take the Bab Boudir road, 26–30 km from Taza (about 40 minutes), by car or grand taxi. From Fès, allow about 2 h 30.

Why “the cave of the wind”?

“Ifri” means cave in Amazigh; the name is said to refer to the cold air that constantly rises from the depths.

Can I take photos?

Yes, without repeated flash near wildlife and without touching the formations. Drones require an authorisation.
